Diana Kyaremera takes over from First Lady Janet Museveni as Chimpanzee Trust patron
Chimpanzee Trust,a non governmental organisation that manages Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary on Lake Victoria, on Sundau unveiled Diana Kyaremera as its new patron.Kyaremera has taken over from her mother, the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, was unveiled during the Chimpanzee day (July 14th) celebrations at Ngamba Island.
“Iam humbled to take over the role of the patron of the chimpanzee trust. Iam grareful for the trust that Mama Janet who is the patron emeritus and the board have placed in me. It’s a role I dont take lightly and Iam committed to fulfilling it to the best of my ability,” Diana said.
She was full of praises for the men and women who have dedicated their lives to studying and protecting wildlife, adding that “it is a thankless job but the generations that come after us will be grateful that you have been deligent in preserving these magnificent and intelligent species for posterity.”
According to Kyaremera, “wildlife is our biggest tourism product, and that the more we invest in our tourism, the more foreign exchange we earn as a country and the more vested interest we would have to conserve our wildlife.”
In attendance were the Chimpanzee Trust Board Chairman, Dr. James Musinguzi, who also serves as the executive director at Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre, Dr. Joshua Rukundo, the executive director at Ngamba Island Chimpanzee trust and other guests from the public and private sector.
